Malibu Road was created for women who appreciate classic design with a free-spirited edge. From butter-soft leather jackets to custom vintage-designed jeans and tops, every piece is made to feel confident, comfortable, and endlessly wearable.

 

How would you describe the Malibu Road aesthetic?

 

The Malibu Road aesthetic is a thoughtful balance of vintage tailoring and modern ease. Collections feature designer-inspired, custom vintage jackets with hand-selected details; timeless denim reworked with a bohemian Malibu sensibility; and elevated tops that feel lived-in yet intentional. The result is clothing that transitions seamlessly from day to night and from coast to city—expressive in spirit and details.

 

Julia’s guiding philosophy informs every design decision:
"If I can’t wear it comfortably, feel really good in it, and go anywhere in it, it doesn’t go in the collection".

 

Can you share your background and creative journey?

 

Raised in London, Julia developed an early love for vintage silhouettes and iconic markets such as Portobello Road, Kensington Market, and Ibiza. She went on to work with the renowned British fashion and lifestyle brand Biba, experiences that shaped her eye for timeless tailoring and distinctive detail. After relocating to Los Angeles, Julia founded one of the city’s most successful fashion showrooms, served as Creative Director for Georgie and SW3, and ultimately launched Malibu Road—merging European vintage influence with California’s relaxed sophistication.

What challenges have you faced along the way?

 

As with any fashion brand, creation is continuous. Fit is paramount and obsessively refined. While much of the line is proudly made in Los Angeles with local factories, the brand also sources globally to uncover exceptional vintage blazers, inspired fabrics, washes, and statement details that round out each collection. The challenge—and the joy—is maintaining originality while ensuring every piece is one of a kind.

Many pieces are made in Los Angeles, and Julia often styles women head-to-toe in the collection—clients who return season after season for that signature chic vintage feel.
