Things to do in Calabasas, Malibu and Westlake Village this October
October is full around here. There is a pumpkin festival, a glowing pumpkin trail, a fashion show for a good cause and a big weekend at Zuma Beach. Here is what is left this month, in date order, with a few extras just outside our five communities.
Through November 1: Night of the Jack at King Gillette Ranch
Calabasas. A one-mile trail of hand-carved, glowing jack-o'-lanterns at King Gillette Ranch, 26800 Mulholland Highway. This year adds Jack's Carnival, with rides and a corn maze. It runs nightly through November 1, and tickets and parking are bought in advance, so check the event site before you drive over.
October 15: Las Virgenes school board candidate forum
Calabasas. 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM in the AC Stelle MPR. All four candidates for the Las Virgenes school board talk about the future of the district and take questions. The public is welcome.
October 16: Spooky Skate
Malibu. A city-run Halloween skate night for all ages. The City of Malibu has not posted the time in the list we found, so check malibucity.org before you go.
October 17: Shred Event at Westlake Village City Hall
Westlake Village. 9 AM to 12 PM at City Hall, 31200 Oak Crest Drive. Bring up to four boxes or bags of paper. Take out hanging file folders first, since the metal rods can't be shredded.

October 22 and 23: Haunt Your Home in Agoura Hills
Agoura Hills. The city's Halloween house-decorating contest. Volunteer judges ride a shuttle from the Recreation Center, 29900 Ladyface Court, to see the best decorated homes. Check with the city if you want to judge.
October 23: Bu Bash Halloween Carnival in Malibu
Malibu. 3 PM to 6 PM at Malibu Bluffs Park, 24250 Pacific Coast Highway. A city carnival for ages 2 to 10. It's $10 per child, and registration is through the City of Malibu.
October 24: Casa Pacifica's 25th Annual Angels Spotlight on Style Fashion Show
Westlake Village. 10 AM to 3 PM at the Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village. Casa Pacifica marks 25 years of the show with a day of fashion and fundraising for the children and families it serves.

Calabasas. 1 PM to 4 PM. A scavenger hunt, crafts, live music and demos of 1880s rancho life. Entry is $10 per person. Children under 2 and members are free. Costumes are welcome.
October 24 and 25: Malibu Moves at Zuma Beach
Malibu. The third annual running and walking weekend. Saturday is the expo, with vendors, demos and kids activities. Sunday has the half marathon at 8 AM, plus a 10K, 5K, one-mile Zuma Dash and a kids run. Parking is at Zuma Beach, 30000 Pacific Coast Highway, and Saturday has free parking along the highway.
